The Light Academia Aesthetic

Light Academia in the City

reading an assigned chapter in central park

the sun warms your face and you drink it in.

sitting on a bench by the pier

watching the water synchronously ripple.

you go through bins outside of a used bookstore and find

prose

plays

history

picking up a stack and lugging them home on the train.

you head underground and swipe your metro card

a guitarist on the train plays a lovely melody.

barely any clouds crowd the sky

the people of the city are out and about.

upbeat tunes carry you home

it's your turn to make dessert.

you and your roommates enjoy dinner

everyone's laughing and sharing their day.

the next morning you wake up to traffic sounds

but you wouldn't have it any other way.

you are a light academic in love with life.

Light Academia Aesthetic

Last week, I covered the dark academia aesthetic, which covered more autumn inspired outfits, nighttime studying and the like. Light academia is considered the emotional opposite of dark academia. It involves enjoying the little things in life (and life in general), the outdoors, enjoying the company of others, and the comfort of the ones around you.

Personally, I associate the light academia aesthetic with the spring semester of school, as I stated last week. In New York City, it can be a little stressful with the hustle and bustle, especially around when spring semester finals occur and the fall-spring school year draws to a close. You have to intentionally set aside time to recharge and relax, and this goes for all school semesters. But in the fall/winter months in New York City, you don't really go outside to relax since the weather is dreary and cold. That's why people head for the parks and piers in the springtime when it starts warming up again.

Regarding turtlenecks, blazers sweaters and cardigans, the fashion is the same as dark academia. However, as the weather warms up, it also incorporates looser blouses, dresses and flowy pants and skirts. Puffed-sleeved tops and peasant blouses are also worn. The clothing in light academia are light colored, usually with tones of white, cream, light browns, light grays and pastel colors.

Examples of how black women can wear Light Academia Style

One classic novel that I associated with light academia is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen! It follows a family and their daughters becoming of age to marry, but it shows some things that young women of that Gregorian era would normally be skilled at. This includes things like playing the piano and embroidery. It's a romantic comedy and follows the story of Elizabeth Bennet. The 2005 version of the movie is very well-done (and the best version!), in my personal opinion. It's one of those films that I can watch over and over and not get tired of! You can currently find it on Netflix.

Do you like the light academia aesthetic? Make sure to give this post a like if you enjoyed it!

Happy Fashion Friday!

Arrivederci,

Brianna
