When worn correctly, a monochromatic look is luxurious, clean and put together. A monochromatic outfit is an one that's made up of one color. “Mono” means one and "chromatic” means color. But monochromatic doesn’t have to mean looking boring in one color. It can be dressing head to toe in sleek black or showing off a look consisting of different shades of pink. It can also be mixing pieces that are the same color, but are different textures. Wearing the same pattern or mixing similar patterns can also be deemed as monochrome, however, in this article we will be focusing on color.
When it comes to contrasts, monochrome outfits can have no contrast to high contrast.
No contrast essentially means you are wearing the same color, no different shades or tints. I show this style here in classier looks instead of super laid-back ones.
No Contrast Outfit Examples
Low contrast means that the colors in the look are the same color, just in different hues/shades/tints that are usually lighter. Here I've included a more casual look using slightly different shades of gray, sandwiched between two more formal looks.
Low Contrast Outfit Examples
Medium to high contrast means that the colors in the outfit shows the increased contrast between the light and dark shades. It was a little tougher to find images of black women wearing high contrast monochrome outfits, so as you look at this upcoming assortment of photos, I did them in a way that it starts out as medium contrast before gradually turning into darker contrasting monochromatic outfits.
